autumn in love

Fall is in the Air!

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

If you've ever read this blog... or met me, you know

I
 *
LOVE
 *
AUTUMN!!

I love how it makes everything look more beautiful:

I love leaves!

I love burning candles and the autumnal scents

I love the style: scarves, boots, layers

I love owls! Which isn't totally relevant except for in a picture like this.
Maybe cuz owls make you think of wisdom and academia and fall is the time for school and pencils and school supplies and I am a nerd who looked forward to that and misses school right now...

I love the treats and baking and curling up with a warm drink

I love how it feels magical,
like something is in the air and possibilities are within reach.

I love how just looking at this post makes me happy.
I hope it inspires you, too...

Unless fall isn't your favourite season... you're one those, eh?
*nods slowly and silently questions our ability to be friends with a polite smile
...awkwardly takes a sip of cider and looks around*

(if you're not one of those, click the tag below that says "autumn in love" to see other FALL posts:)

1000 words

sore throat, autumn days, feel better

Take a pot and heat some apple cider:
(you can substitute regular apple juice, if you can't find cider)

Add a dash of this:

A few squirts of this:

Throw in a couple of these:

Maybe a teaspoon of brown sugar:

Bring to a light boil then let simmer for about 10 minutes,
serve with whipped cream and some of the caramel syrup:

Et voila!
I still have strep throat but I feel a little better...

a fine frenzy

did i make it that easy to walk right in and out of my life

I'm decorating for fall in my house,
listening to A Fine Frenzy and brewing cider in the kitchen.

Perfection.

Alison Sudol (above) always makes me think of autumn- maybe because I listened to her in the Fall of '07 the first autumn in my then-new house as I decorated. Or maybe because every time the leaves start to fall, I start wanting to dye my hair red again! I had the One Cell in the Sea album by A Fine Frenzy (which, in case you don't know, is Sudol) but it's in my old computer and I haven't done the data-transfer thing to my new computer yet. Mainly cuz I'm not willing to give Best Buy $100 right now and also because I haven't had a time where I can do without my computer for two days since I got it. Soooo I went and found all the songs, in order, on youtube for yours and my listening pleasure.

Anyway, I hope you're enjoying this night... or day, wherever you are:)

My favourite season?

A U T U M N

It might be a little premature, but I'm declaring that the season has begun!

I grew up in a place that is predominantly forestland so I adore trees and leaves and when better to do so than when they're all orange and red and yellow and BEAUTIFUL?!

Things I love about Autumn:

Scarves like this one

Boots! Wellingtons, ankle boots, knee-high boots ~ whatever!
(If you know where to find any like these, let me know)

Adorable coats like this double-breasted one from Forever 21

Knitted hats

The decor like these cute pumpkins... I might do some like these this year...

...and soft lighting against the darkened sky.
I have these orange/brown flower lights in my window that I put up one year for my autumn decorating (yes, I decorate kinda like one would for Christmas- pictures to come!) and left them there because it makes me feel cozy to curl up on my couch at night and see them illuminating from the dining room.

Making treats like cookies...

...sweet potatoes (which I made today and the whole house smelled nutmeg/cinnamony and delicious!)

...candied apples...

...and caramel apple cider, which is great for my perpetually scratchy throat.
(sorry, I'm not a tea-drinker)

And the fact that the earth is coated in a beautiful bed of crunchy, splendiferous, beauteous-ness!

Belle and Sebastian have that chill, autumnal mood and I've been listening to them today. Here's a fav...

Another good song is Blackbirds in Autumn by Scatteredtrees,
which is in the playlist to your left.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!:)
